Sealand Invades Southend!

On 11th July, Sealand Sport swapped football fields and cricket pitches for the wrestling ring as Sir Joshua Goodwin, the reigning Sealand National Champion, stepped into battle at a packed Wrestleforce event in Southend-on-Sea.

With the Sealand Seahawks holding training just a few miles away at Westcliff Rugby Club, supporters made the short journey to Thorpe Hall School to cheer on Sealand's champion.

By the time the opening bell approached, Sealanders made up almost a third of the crowd.

Needless to say...

The locals weren't overly impressed.

A Champion Answers the Challenge

After issuing an open challenge to Wrestleforce to provide their finest competitor, the promotion responded with one of British wrestling's most respected names.

Paul "Robbo" Robinson.

A veteran of the British wrestling scene and multiple-time champion, Robinson brought experience, aggression and more than enough confidence to take on The Principality of Sealand's favourite son.

The stage was set.

National Pride on Display

As the competitors prepared for battle, the Sealand supporters proudly stood for the national anthem.

It immediately became clear there were two very different sides inside the venue.

The Sealand faithful.

And everyone else.

Robinson wasted no time making his feelings known, provoking the travelling supporters before the match had even officially begun.

That proved to be a mistake.

An Explosive Start

Unable to tolerate the disrespect shown to Sealand, Sir Joshua launched his attack before the opening bell.

The Essex crowd voiced their disapproval.

The Sealand contingent absolutely loved it.

Taking the action outside the ring, the self-proclaimed "Tyrant of Roughs Tower" established early control through power and aggression.

A Battle Between Power and Experience

Robinson's experience soon began to show.

Using his trademark speed and high-flying offence, he clawed his way back into the contest and repeatedly caught the Sealand Champion off guard.

But Sir Joshua refused to stay down.

Combining technical wrestling with brute strength, he regained momentum and came agonisingly close to victory after delivering the devastating Fort Slam—a crushing pancake piledriver that nearly ended the match.

So Close to Victory

Momentum swung firmly back towards Sealand.

Sir Joshua connected with his devastating finishing manoeuvre:

The Roughs Tower.

He immediately followed it by locking in his trademark submission hold:

The Red, White and Black.

Victory looked inevitable.

The Sealand supporters were already celebrating.

A Veteran's Escape

But champions aren't the only ones who know how to survive.

Drawing upon years of experience, Robinson somehow escaped the submission.

With one final burst of energy, he launched a desperate counterattack.

A perfectly executed two-foot stomp to the back of Sir Joshua's head stunned the champion long enough for Robinson to make the cover.

One...

Two...

Three.

The Champion Remains

Although Robinson secured the victory on the night, there was one important detail.

Because he was not representing the Principality of Sealand, he was ineligible to challenge for the Sealand National Championship.

That meant Sir Joshua Goodwin remained Sealand Champion.

The title stayed exactly where it belonged.

A Night to Remember

Following the match, Sealand's Minister for Sport and Culture, Mike Ireland, helped Sir Joshua to his feet outside the ring.

The Sealand supporters responded with a huge ovation, recognising both the effort and the performance of their champion.

The evening also highlighted the outstanding work of everyone at Wrestleforce, who once again delivered a fantastic evening of professional wrestling.

Special thanks go to promoter Oliver "The Peacemaker" Peace, who not only welcomed Sir Joshua to the event but also celebrated a victory of his own earlier in the evening.

What's Next?

Sir Joshua Goodwin returns to action at Exposure Wrestling Entertainment during Newport Comic Con on 8th–9th August, where he will once again proudly represent Sealand.

One thing is certain.

Whether inside a football stadium, on a cricket field, or under the bright lights of a wrestling ring...

Sealand always travels well.
