Presented at the Free Cities Foundation Conference, Prague 2025
By Prince Liam of Sealand
Freedom Isn’t Granted , It’s Claimed
Last week my father, Prince Michael, and I travelled to Prague to give a speech at the Free Cities Foundation Conference, a gathering of people building the future of free societies.
Our talk, “Make Sealand Great Again: Story of the World’s Smallest Country,” shared how one family’s stand for independence became a 60-year story of self-determination & what comes next.
“Long before people could vote with their feet, my family did exactly that.”
What We Covered
-
The fight for free airwaves: how my Grandfather, Prince Roy's time as a 'Radio Pirate' lead to the founding of Sealand
-
The 1967 declaration: Founding the Principality of Sealand with its own flag, passports, constitution, and coat of arms.
-
Battles for sovereignty: from armed invasions to the 1968 UK court ruling confirming Britain had no jurisdiction, and the 1978 coup d’état that cemented Sealand’s independence.
-
Sealand 2.0: a first look at the next phase: digital nation-building, E-Citizenship, and blockchain-based governance for a new generation of freedom-builders.

I have an idea you may want to consider for generating additional revenue streams.
Have you considered charging a membership fee for an official Sealand embassy.
This way Sealand citizens could have an official Sealand embassy in their Home, Workspace, and the like.
Obviously, an embassy would require a higher responsibility. A higher responsibility may require a higher fee.
Let me know your thoughts.
Cheers!

I think that if Sealand is looking for more legitimacy, then they need to issue passports to it citizens like all countries do. This would also raise a lot of money for future expansion plans for Seland. Also having Sealand designate Ambassadors with established Consulates would definitely help promote Seland around the world. Both of these ideas seem like logical next steps and help keep Sealand relevant while promoting Seland 2.0.

Are there live WiFi cameras on Sealand and if not is this a consideration? Possibly using Starlink or another satellite based communication as a solution. Perhaps subscription based to offset costs. Are there any other interactive plans for Sealand; podcast, either audio/visual programming with educational information about Sealand or information about Nation building or future plans through WiFi domestically transmitted from Sealand or another remote location. When would embassies or consulates be planned and where? Substantial revenue would be needed- what are some possible methods intended to generate this revenue? Will there be a digital currency created or a physical/ symbolic currency for Sealnders to have and will there be a “Federal Reserve” to maintain any wealth.

Passports and visit to my country would be fantastic for me and financially helpful for the Principality. Also are there ways of “upgrading” our titles?
