Sealand Seahawks in Brno: Three Teams, One Day, One Very Cold Field...
सीलैंड स्पोर्ट्स

Sealand Seahawks in Brno. Three teams, one day.

We knew coming off the back of Civil War that keeping the momentum of "something different" going for Sealand Sports meant we'd have to go bigger, better, and more than a little bit silly.

How It All Started

Nothing screams "impending headache" like taking 200 Sealanders to the Czech Republic. As I spoke with Masters' Nose Tackle Milan Remes, the idea grew and grew. It started as the Nationals playing the Brno Sigrs. Then the Masters joined in to play a combined team of ex-national players from Czech, Slovakia, Slovenia and Austria called the Old Stars. Then the Shehawks came on board too, set to play the Brno Amazons.

The date, 22nd November 2025, was set and locked in.

Training in the Heat, Playing in the Snow

All three Sealand teams headed to Bristol's Hillside Gardens facility to train on what might have been the hottest day of the year, the soles of our feet somehow even more burnt than our shoulders by the end of it. We knew Czech was going to be a battle, so we worked hard to get ready, finishing a scorching training session with a water fight, which is fast becoming a tradition with the Sealand Seahawks.

Flying into Prague and settling into the city centre before the drive over to Brno, it was clear this was going to be the complete opposite of Bristol. It was cold. Very, very cold. After Friday's training there was a light dusting of snow. Czech is a beautiful country, full of amazing architecture, but knowing I'd be spending an entire day outside in it wasn't something I was looking forward to, if I'm honest.

Shehawks vs Amazons

Milan had sorted us a great stadium with a proper PA system, and Sealand Seagulls Softball Captain Levi Shinkle took over on the microphone for the day. The Shehawks lined up for the first game against the Amazons, coming out to the Sealand classic "We Like to Party" by the Vengaboys, same as we'd done in Amsterdam. The Amazons came out to "All I Want for Christmas Is You" by Mariah Carey.

That was easily the high point before a very painful match. The Amazons, having narrowly missed the championship only weeks earlier, clicked instantly, while the Shehawks needed time to gel. Quarterback Rylee Adamson carried the entire offence on her back and ran one in the length of the field, but that was the last time the Shehawks put points on the board. With the offence missing key players and unable to find that elusive first down, a very experienced Amazons side put point after point on an exhausted Shehawks defence.

Final score: 56-6 to the Brno Amazons. Rylee Adamson took home MVP for the offence, and Ilse Van Staden for the defence.

Masters vs Old Stars

The second game, Masters against Old Stars, opened with a minute's silence and a prayer circle observed by both teams, Milan saying a few words for an Old Star who had passed away only weeks before the event. Proof that even in a naturally violent sport, there's no place for animosity in American football.

The Seahawks scored first through a pass from Rik Lowthion to Steve Howard, now the only player to have scored for and against the Seahawks Masters, having previously scored in Guadalajara playing for the Stings. The Seahawks missed their PAT, and the Old Stars added their own extra point plus a field goal to lead 10-6 at the half.

Ant Marsden returned an interception the length of the field for a touchdown, and Rik Lowthion connected with Captain Adam Jones to seal the win for the Masters, 18-10.

The real story of the day though was Seahawks Legend Levy Morrow taking the field for the final play to kneel the ball out and claim the win in his final game, closing out an incredible 36-year playing career.

MVPs went to the entire offensive line, and to Ant Marsden for the defence.

Nationals vs Brno Sigrs: The Grand Finale

At one game each, it was down to the Nationals to play the Czech Champions, Brno Sigrs, for the grand finale.

I was coordinating the offence for this one, so I'll admit I looked a little silly keeping most of my playing gear on from the Masters game and just throwing as many layers on top as I could. Didn't matter. Still freezing.

All three running backs were on fire, Vic Ofoe, Denzel Harmitt and Andrew Johnson crashing into a solid Sigrs defence all game long. But the Sigrs quarterback seemed to be playing a completely different sport, dancing around and causing absolute nightmares despite excellent Seahawks defensive play, scoring two touchdowns, two PATs and two field goals to make it 20-6, where it stayed for most of the game.

Quarterback Joe Thompson connected with Aqeel Diwan for a consolation touchdown to bring it to 20-12, but with an accelerated clock running across three games in one day, time ran out before Sealand could find another score.

MVPs: Vic Ofoe for the offence, Captain Stu Edwards for the defence.

The Verdict

1-2 on the day. We were gutted. But at the same time, we'd done something I can't imagine has ever been done before: three games, same day, same place, for one National setup.

We've recently brought in the phrase "Tell Us We Can't" for Sealanders, and this might be the most obvious example of that phrase in action.

With the floodlights switching off, I walked back to the hire car absolutely shattered, telling myself, "We've done it, we never have to do it again." Got back to the hotel, had a hot bath, and a few beers with my pals. A time to relax after herding cats for an entire weekend. Never again.

What's Next for Sealand Sports

All three Sealand American Football teams are back in action on 31st October 2026 in Formigine, Italy: the Nationals against the Honey Badgers, the Masters against the Lone Wolves, and the Shehawks against the Scarlet Phoenix.

(I'll never learn.)

Special shoutout to Eden Fahy, who was very keen for this article to go up as soon as possible so he could show his mates he'd played international American football. There you go.
