Jeff Garside: Football, Brotherhood, and Taking on the World
Some people join teams.

Jeff Garside is firmly in that second category.
A veteran of British and international American football, Jeff has become one of the defining personalities behind the Sealand Seahawks and the wider sporting movement representing the Principality of Sealand.
And if you ask almost anyone involved with the club, they’ll probably tell you the same thing:
It just wouldn’t feel the same without him.
Nearly Two Decades in the Game
Jeff’s football journey stretches back almost twenty years and covers just about every level of the game outside the professional spotlight.
Across clubs including:
- Cornish Sharks
- Cornwall’s 'Other Team'
- Plymouth Vanguard
…he built a reputation as a player who simply kept showing up, competing, and representing the game the right way.
But the story doesn’t stop at domestic football.
Jeff also became heavily involved in international all-star football, representing:
- International Allstars
- Team Colorado
- USA MLFR National Allstars
Along the way, he collected:
- 3× Gamblers Bowl Championships
- MLFR Hall of Fame recognition in 2024
That’s not just longevity.
That’s respect earned over decades.
The Beach Bowl Meeting
Like many major Sealand stories, this one starts with Mike Ireland.
More specifically:
“A beautiful man called Sir Michael Ireland…”
While working together on the Newquay Beach Bowl in 2020, Mike introduced Jeff to the idea of Sealand.
And from there?
Everything escalated quickly.
Because once you understand what the Seahawks are about, it’s hard not to get pulled in.
Dublin and Vegas
Ask Jeff about his best Seahawks memories and the answer is simple:
All of it.
The football.
The people.
The beers.
But two moments stand above the rest:
- The first trip to Dublin
- The 2024 Las Vegas tour
Because those tours represented something bigger than games.
They proved the Seahawks weren’t just a novelty, they were building something real.
More Than Just Football
One thing comes up repeatedly when Jeff talks about the Seahawks:
The people.
“Never realised we had so many wonderful people in the football world.”
That’s what makes Sealand different.
It gathers players, coaches, veterans, newcomers, and personalities from all over the game and somehow creates a shared identity out of all of it.
Looking Towards the World Stage
Jeff’s ambitions for the Seahawks match the energy of the club itself:
Bigger. Better. More international.
And at the centre of that dream sits one major goal:
IFAF affiliation.
Because once that happens?
“Then we take the world!!!!!”
And honestly, with the momentum the Seahawks already have, it no longer sounds impossible.
Becoming a Legend
Despite everything he’s achieved, Jeff’s reaction to becoming a Sealand Legend remained incredibly grounded.
For him, the honour isn’t about individual recognition.
It’s about the people around him.
“Every single one of them is a legend in my eyes.”
Which says a lot about why this team works.
“Are You a Knob?”
Naturally, Jeff also provided one of the greatest recruitment pitches in Seahawks history.
If you’re thinking of joining, apparently there’s only one real question:
“Am I a knob?”
And if the answer is yes, or you have the potential to become one…
This may not be the place for you.
But outside of that?
Everyone is welcome.

Meeting the royal family.

There’s genuine pride on both sides.
