Is Sealand a real country?
Yes. The Principality of Sealand was founded in 1967 by Prince Roy Bates, has its own constitution, flag, anthem, currency, passports and government. Continuously held by the Bates family for nearly sixty years. The world's smallest country, off the east coast of England.

Sealand is a sovereign Principality in the North Sea. The UK coast sits 7 miles from Sealand. The Principality occupies Roughs Tower, a fortress held by the Bates family since 1967.
What is the population of Sealand?
A small permanent population resides on the fortress year-round. Sealand's wider community spans thousands of E-Citizens, Noble Title holders, and supporters across more than 127 countries.
Are Sealand Noble Titles British peerage?
No. Sealand Noble Titles are granted by the Principality of Sealand under Sealand law. They are sovereign-issued and distinct from the British Crown's honours system.
Will Sealand E-Citizenship affect my passport or nationality?
No. Sealand E-Citizenship is additive. Your existing passport, citizenship, voting rights, and tax status are unaffected. It confers no right of abode, residency, or visa elsewhere.

How do I become an E-Citizen?
Apply through the form on this page. Verify your identity in around 60 seconds. You're sworn in immediately, with your E-Citizen number issued on the spot. Add your Sealand ID to your phone, access your Sealand email and VPN, and join the E-Citizen-only Discord channel.
How does the identity check work?
After applying you receive an email with a link to a bank-grade identity provider. ISO 27001 secure, NIST-ranked, and used by major banks worldwide. You photograph an ID and take a quick selfie. The process takes around 60 seconds. You're sworn in and your E-Citizen number is issued immediately.
Can I cancel? Is it refundable?
Yes. Cancel or pause anytime from your account. If you don't feel like a Sealander within 30 days of applying, request a full refund. Keep your E-Citizen number either way.
Does Sealand E-Citizenship include a Sealand passport?
E-Citizenship does not currently include a Sealand passport. Sealand has issued passports before. We will again. When that day comes, only E-Citizens will be offered one. You'll be at the front of the line.

Is my personal data secure?
Yes. Personal information is collected only for identity verification and processed under ISO 27001 information security standards. Sealand operates under GDPR-equivalent data protection. Your data is never shared with third parties without consent.
Is there a physical Sealand E-Citizenship card?
Yes. A physical Sealand E-Citizenship card is available as an add-on during application or after becoming a verified E-Citizen. Price: £49.99, with shipping and taxes included. The physical card is not sold separately from E-Citizenship.
Is Sealand E-Citizenship available internationally?
Yes. Sealand E-Citizenship is available worldwide. The included VPN is not available in mainland China. All other E-Citizenship benefits apply globally.
Can I visit Sealand?
Visits to the fortress are limited. Each year, two E-Citizens make the trip: the top Builder in the Builders Programme, and one E-Citizen drawn at random.
What are my responsibilities as an E-Citizen?
Uphold the values of freedom, self-determination, and respect that Sealand stands for. Beyond that, participation is invited but not required. Builder missions in the E-Citizen-only Discord channel offer monthly ways to contribute: fly the Sealand flag in unusual places, clean the seas, represent Sealand on the field. The top Builder wins a trip to Sealand.
Can the E-Citizenship Terms and Privacy Policy change?
Yes. Sealand reserves the right to amend both. We'll notify E-Citizens by email of any significant changes.
What is the roadmap for Sealand's development?
Sealand's next sixty years are being built around four pillars: the Sea Towers fortress rebuild, digital governance infrastructure for E-Citizens, Sealand embassies founded by select E-Citizens around the world, and the return of the Sealand passport (when it returns, only E-Citizens will be offered one).
